The A's had men on base every inning but the second as McNulty issued six walks. But he was helped by double plays, three of them hit by John Hack.
The Senators got off to a quick 1-0 lead when Wayne Peterson took the first pitch of the game over the centrefield wall. Then came a parade of hits in the second. Roy Carlson doubled, Bob Hedington singled, then Marty Krug and McNulty doubled to remove starter Rex Jones. When it was over, four runs scored.
Buddy Peterson hit an inside-the-park home run in the fourth, though it appeared he was out at the plate.
Mel Wasley tripled in a runner in the seventh and Krug homered in the eighth to complete the Salem scoring.

VANCOUVER, June 9—Bud Sheely and Vancouver Capilanos had plenty to say about Yakima Owner-President Dewey Soriano's 8-0 pitching record and the Bears' commanding league lead tonight.
Sheely batted in five runs with two homers to lead the Caps to a 9-0 triumph over the Bears, cutting their lead to five-and-a-half games. Soriano was charged with his first loss of the season, retiring in favour of Dick Drilling at the end of the fourth after being tagged with a grand-slam blow by Sheely. The Cap catcher added his other four-baser in the fifth with none aboard.
Bremerton Bluejackets two-timed Wenatchee behind effective hurling.
