SALEM, June 28—In the spirited Western International league pennant dispute defending champion Spokane pressed a strengthening demand that the title holdings be given back to the Indians.
The tribe rode its latest win streak to five straight by twice tomahawking Salem, 14-7 and 13 7, in a drizzle-spattered double-header at Salem.
The Spokes sluiced in six runs in the 11th inning to win the second game as John Conant spaced eight hits over the extended route. Wayne Peterson sent the game into overtime when he homered in the bottom of the ninth.
The Indians exploded for a six-run rally in the fifth frame of the seven-inning opener, halted for half an hour by rain.
Indians notes — Jack Teagan, the only left-handed pitcher on the roster, has been sold to Augusta, Ga., in the Class A South Atlantic League.
