SALEM, May 4—The Salem Senators held off a late Victoria rally in the first game to win 4.3, but fell to the Athletics in the nightcap, 16-6.
An error and singles by Sol Israel and Dick Morgan gave Victoria the first run of the game in the second inning. Two base hits and two walks shoved over two Senators in the fourth and Salem made it 4-1 with another pair in the sixth when two more walks figured heavily into the scoring.
Victoria almost pulled it out in the seventh when a walk, an error and a single by Bob Day sent in two more runners.
Day and Israel split four of Victoria's six hits.

YAKIMA, May 4—Yakima Bears retained their hold on the league lead by edging the Vancouver Capilanos, 5-4, as Dewey Soriano, club president and pitching star, saved another game for his aggregation.
Soriano came to the aid of Larry Powell, veteran Coast League southpaw making his first start for Yakima, in the eighth when the Caps shoved over three runs. The Bears had taken an early lead by scoring all of their runs in the first two innings. Edo Vanni, with two singles, and babe Gammino, with a triple and a single, did most of the damage.

BREMERTON, May 4—John Conant and Keith Simon, two of the stars of the 1948 Bluejackets, opposed each others as the Tars tangled with the Spokane Indians. Simon came out on top, 8-3, when the Jackets tallied five runs in the eighth.

WENATCHEE, May 4—Hal Rhyne's two-run homer for the Chiefs was about the only highlight forn the home fans as Wenatchee commited seven errors in falling 9-6 to the Tacoma Tigers.
